What If You Got Away With It? – Part 2 – Alter Heist

In 1985 in Tucson, Arizona, two people walked into an art museum, cut a painting worth more than $100 million out of it’s frame, and walked out. The Willem de Kooning piece was missing for over 30 years before it was recovered in an estate sale of a couple who lived just 200 miles from where the painting was taken.

To this day the questions remain: Did the Alter family steal this nearly priceless piece of art, just to hang it behind the door in their bedroom? If not, how did it come into their possession? Did they try to sell it? Is this a modern day Bonnie and Clyde situation? Is it the most innocent and romantic crime we’ve heard of? Maybe. Maybe.
