In 1948, one of the most famous UFO incidents in the history of the United States occurred, seeming to have spawned a slew of added sightings, and garnering national attention. Over the night skies of North Dakota, a WWII veteran and National Guard member engaged in a nearly 30 minute dogfight with an unidentifiable, seemingly intelligent, light in the sky. One that defied every known law of physics both then and even today, getting as close to the Air Force craft as 500 feet.
What did George Gorman actually see, and dogfight with, that night in October? Who were the five, credible, civilian and military witnesses to the event? What would the US Air Force have to say about it? How much can everything strange in the sky be a weather balloon? And how badly would a cable network botch the dramatization of the event over 50 years later? Listen in to find out, this week on The What If? Podcast.
