Mike Knox’s experiences with the paranormal started as a child and have continued through his time as a radar operator in the Air Force, and as a field investigator for the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON). We first met Mike at the June 2017 MUFON meeting in New Brighton, Minnesota. He was kind enough to sit down with us a few days later and share his stories with us. The MUFON Meeting
When we were preparing for this episode, I asked Ryan if he wanted to go to our local MUFON meeting. MUFON stands for Mutual UFO Network. They’re a national organization that catalogues and investigates UFO and alien encounters. Most states have their own chapter, and ours meets once a month at a local community center. Ryan agreed to go, and on a saturday morning, we drove about 30 minutes north of the city to check it out.
When we arrived, we were the youngest people in the room by at least 20 years. We stuck out. We were also late. The meeting notice said it ran from 2-5, but if you’re a MUFON regular, you know there’s a social hour from 1-2. Oops. We grabbed seats in the back and tried to fit it.
The meeting started with some housekeeping. Membership dues are going up and people aren’t happy. We then watched a documentary about aliens, UFOs, false flag operations, secret government projects, and all types of conspiracy staples. It was ok.
Mike’s Story
The real highlight of the afternoon however, was Mike Knox. On the meeting agenda, there was an item called Big Mike’s Excellent Adventures. Right away, I knew this is what we really had come for. A larger man, probably in his late 60s, wearing suspenders and a MUFON hat stepped to the podium. He began to tell a story, or rather, a series of stories about several of his encounters with UFOs and who he called “the little guys”.
I was enthralled. I furiously scribbled down notes as I tried to keep up with his story. He started telling us about three little gray aliens that entered his hotel room in California and healed his separated achilles tendon. They injected his ankle with something and left little alien finger prints on his leg. He also recalled being aboard the alien spaceship with 7 of his friends who were staying at the hotel with him.
Then he jumped to a year later, when he saw the aliens again on his Wisconsin hunting property. He remembers playing flashlight tag with several UFOs before they descended to the ground and multiple gray aliens emerged. They took him aboard their ship again. This encounter continued on and off for eight days, with the UFOs following him from western Wisconsin back to Minneapolis. He recorded audio and took several pictures of the interactions.
Our Conversation With Mike
Unfortunately, the meeting was running late and there was a birthday party waiting to use the room we were in. Mike didn’t get to finish his story. He closed by offering to have everyone at the meeting up to his place that night. He lives out in the woods, has a pair of night vision goggles, and he’s been seeing UFOs almost every night.
I was so overwhelmed by the whole experience that I didn’t think to talk to Mike afterwards. However, I managed to track him down the next day. I asked him if he’d be willing to talk more about his experiences, and maybe do an interview for the podcast. Mike obliged, saying he takes any opportunity he can to share his story. He invited us up to his house later that week. We spent several hours talking with Mike about his time in the military, his alien abduction experiences, and his decades of UFO sightings. This episode is a condensed version of that conversation.

2. Due to his time in the military, Mike uses some jargon we were unfamiliar with. While detailing his time in the Air Force, he references the Nike missile ring. This article from Minn Post describes the four sites around the Twin Cities, about thirty miles out in each cardinal direction. Nuclear missiles were present at each site. These missiles served as a last defense of American cities in the event of Soviet bombers flying over the North Pole to annihilate the United States. They could take down the incoming bombers about 90 miles away from their targets. The sites operated from 1959–1971, though remnants of them can still be seen today.
3. Mike describes encounters with “grays”. For those unfamiliar, this refers to small (three to four feet tall), gray-skinned aliens. They commonly have large bulbous heads, likely as a result of their superior intelligence. Most notable however, are their large, black eyes. Many alien abductees have described a feeling of paralysis while looking at the grays’ eyes.
