Today features one of the wildest stories we may have ever told here on The What If? Podcast, along with one of our favorite friends of the show, and oft request guest, Lydia Liza. The Irving family, of the Isle of Man, received international press after tales of a strange invader of their home made waves throughout the British Isles. They told of a ghostly animal inhabitant, by the name of Gef. Gef the Talking Mongoose. Yep. You read that right.
With intricate and elaborate stories, the Irving family told of the language, behaviors, stories, songs, and words that this talking animal exhibited, and of his efforts to befriend, protect, threaten, and ultimately confuse the family. What happened in 1931 to the Irving family? Were they truly visited by a talking mongoose? Is this a group delusion, created by an isolated and struggling family? Is this talking mongoose none other than a ghost or poltergeist haunting an old stone home in the wilderness? Find out this week, on The What If? Podcast.
