Missing 411
Y’all couldn’t get enough of the disappearance stories brought to light by David Paulides and his Missing 411 work. So friends, today, we dive back into the vast web of strange tales surrounding people who go missing under mysterious circumstances. We tell more previously unheard stories on our podcast, from Paulides’ books and the new Missing 411 movie, and discuss what in the world we (and he) think is happening.
We learn a whole lot today, including the fact that Spencer barely leaves his house, Gorder is 33 feet tall, people in Minnesota go missing sometimes (which terrified us Minnesotans), and a whole lot more.
Kory Kelly
First, we examine the story of Kory Kelly, from David Paulides’ most recent book, Hunters. Kelly and a friend were hunting in northern Minnesota in October 2006. They were on a plot of land that they visited together every fall. When they arrived at their campsite, Kelly’s friend drove to a nearby town to get gas. Kelly stayed behind. When his friend returned, Kelly was gone, along with his gun, ammunition, dog, lighter, cigarettes, coat, and cell phone.
That night his friend started looking for him, but was unable to locate him. When Kelly still hadn’t returned by the next morning, a full on search and rescue was initiated. Authorities searched for two weeks without finding Kelly. Then, nine days into the search, authorities found Kelly’s dog dehydrated, but otherwise healthy. Twelve days into the search, searchers found Kelly’s lighter and cigarettes. The following day, authorities found his overalls, socks, and sweatshirt.
After about two weeks, the sheriff’s department postponed the search due to a large snowstorm. The search resumed in April, and on April 28th a helicopter located Kelly’s body. The sheriff’s department determined that he had died of hypothermia, likely on the first night that he went missing.
